Pretrial and Jails
This critical point in the justice system is ripe for opportunities to take advantage of community-based drug treatment options as a way to promote public safety, reduce jail crowding, eliminate cash bail, ensure people get the help they need to reduce their contact with the justice system, and continue their connection to their family, children, and employment by remaining in community when they can safely do so.
Working alongside national partners, CHJ can provide resources on safe withdrawal protocols, the use of medication-assisted treatment, and screening/assessment processes to improve the effectiveness of jail-based interventions for individuals with substance use disorders.
