Matt Doss

Matt Doss is a Program Manager with the Center for Health and Justice at TASC, where he is working to provide training and technical assistance (TA) to deflection sites across Illinois. He is currently leading an effort to establish a statewide veterans deflection initiative to support veterans before a crisis.

Before joining TASC, Matt retired from the Springfield (IL) Police Department in March 2024 after a career as a Patrol Officer and Patrol Sergeant. As a Patrol Sergeant, he supervised the homeless outreach team and served as the Grant Manager for its co-responder program. This program paired mental health professionals with police officers to respond to individuals in crisis, focusing on de-escalation and diverting them from emergency rooms or jails to community-based treatment.

Matt was also a part of the leadership team responsible for developing Springfield's homeless deflection initiative. A U.S. Army veteran who served as a military police officer, Matt remains actively involved in veteran advocacy. He currently serves as District Commander for the Department of Illinois’ 3rd District with AMVETS, continuing to support fellow veterans at the local level through AMVETS Post 100.
