As Program Manager for TASC’s Center for Health and Justice, Koren VanderWeele serves as the lead of deflection initiatives to jurisdictions in Illinois, providing training and technical assistance (TTA) on their planning and implementation.
Before joining TASC , Koren worked with the Police, Treatment, and Community Collaborative (PTACC) to develop its PTACC deflection fellowship program. She previously worked as a case manager for several specialty courts including the mental health court in Van Buren County, Michigan. There, she was the chair of a strategic planning committee working to develop a deflection program in that community. Koren also brings experience working in law enforcement, having served as an officer with the Roswell, New Mexico police department.
Koren graduated Summa Cum Laude from Western Michigan University earning a bachelor’s in criminal justice with a minor in addictions studies. Koren’s undergraduate thesis for the Lee Honor’s College was on the subject of pre-arrest diversion programs with a concentration on substance use disorders.
