Justice Community Opioid
Innovation Network (JCOIN)
Led by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the Justice
Community Opioid Innovation Network (JCOIN) is a
groundbreaking initiative to study and disseminate evidence-based approaches to
care for individuals in justice settings who have opioid use disorder (OUD).
JCOIN envisions that every justice-involved individual with a substance
use disorder have timely access to evidence-based practices and treatment(s),
while detained and while in the community. Toward this vision, JCOIN brings together
a national network of partners working to advance scientific knowledge on
effective policies, practices, and interventions, and expand the use of this
knowledge into daily practice in justice and health settings.
TASC plays a critical role in this initiative, both in terms of participating in JCOIN research projects and in disseminating JCOIN research, products, and tools in ways that are useful and relevant to on-the-ground practice.
Established through the Helping to End Addiction Long-termSM Initiative,
or NIH HEAL Initiative SM, JCOIN
provides a unique opportunity to re-envision how the criminal justice system
responds to addiction.
